Manual: Sporeless Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit
Manual - Sporeless oyster mushroom grow kit
STEP 1
Take the grow kit out of the box and put it in the fridge for 24 hours.
STEP 2
Use a sharp knife or a pair of scissors to cut 1 or more crosses of about 4 by 4 cm into the plastic. The mushrooms will grow out of these crosses.
The position of the crosses does not matter much. The mycelium will notice by itself where most of the oxygen comes from, and mushrooms will form there on their own.
STEP 3
Do not put the block in direct sunlight or too close to the heating. Sporeless oyster mushrooms grow best in a place with a temperature between 13°C and 18°C and a relative humidity of around 85%. A room with good ventilation is essential because of the higher CO2 production of this strain. Preferably put the grow kit in a room where you can regulate the humidity, such as a utility room or a bathroom. By putting the grow kit on a damp cloth on a plate, you raise the humidity in the immediate area. Make sure that the place where you put the grow kit is free of draughts.
STEP 4
Once the oyster mushrooms stop growing fast and just before the caps have opened up completely, you can harvest. The clusters can be pulled off the block whole.
STEP 5
To encourage a second harvest (flush), the substrate has to be activated again. You can do this by raising the temperature of the substrate to above 22°C for 5-6 days without extra moistening. After this period the grow kit has to be put in the fridge for a night again.
STEP 6
After two harvests the substrate is usually exhausted. The block can then serve as excellent compost.
