Wooden plugs colonised with split gill mycelium (Schizophyllum commune) for inoculating fresh hardwood logs.

Use a healthy oak, beech or chestnut log and drill holes of 8 to 10 mm; the supplied wax seals them. In Europe the split gill counts as inedible because it is as tough as leather, but it is one of the most studied fungi in the world: it dries out completely and comes back to life within hours after a shower of rain.
